Bring a crowd! We hope that you invite others from your community or company to join in the festivities – call the WALA office for group discounts. You can sign-up online or by contacting Chris Herb at the WALA office, 608/442-0375. 2) Advanced Management Certification WALA is proud to offer an innovative and comprehensive certification program only for experienced assisted living administrators and managers. The Advanced Management Certification was designed to hone your competitive edge and recognize your commitment to continued professional development. Part 1 will be held at the Country Inn Hotel in Waukesha on November 4 - 5, 2004, and Part 2 will be at the same location in April 2005. Become one of the first in the nation to hold this high-level, national certification! Only 40 administrators will be allowed to participate, so sign up now! Part 3 (WALA’s terminology) of the HFS-83 rewrite has been released by BQA for review. In many ways, this section of the rewrite (HFS-83.14 Orientation, Training, Competency Testing and Exemptions) is the most controversial. It is clear that BQA feels that the current training system is inadequate. However, they also indicated they may be open to a process other than competency testing if one can be devised. Please attend a public discussion of the HFS-83 rewrite as a whole at the WALA office, October 27 at 10:00 a.m. We need to hear your ideas and concerns! WALA's HFS-83 Rewrite Committee meets November 2 to review the proposed changes to Part 3. In early October, the WALA HFS-83 Rewrite Committee submitted comments to Part 2: Subchapter I - General Overview, Subchapter II - Operations, and Subchapter III - Admissions, Transfers and Discharge. The complete text of our comments and BQA's response are now available for you to review. Our
comments (and BQA’s response) for Part 1 (Subchapter VI – Physical
Environment and Safety and Subchapter VII – Structural Requirements)
as well as the original Part
1 from BQA are posted. WALA was pleased that most
of our suggestions were accepted by BQA. Remember: YOU HAVE A
VOICE IN THIS PROCESS! If you are interested in contributing comments and concerns
to be reviewed by the WALA HFS-83 Rewrite Committee, contact the WALA
office. Renew your membership in the strongest assisted living association in Wisconsin - The time has come again to renew your membership in WALA! We will send you log-on details when you renew. 5) Assisted Living Salary & Benefits Survey -Hospital & Healthcare Compensation Service (HCS) is currently conducting the 2004-2005 Assisted Living Salary & Benefits Report. Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) supports the Report and encourages member participation in the study. The Report is the definitive source for AL compensation. Data are reported according to profit type, unit-size, revenue size, geographic region and state. Also covered are 22 fringe benefits, turnover rates by department, and projected salary increases. Time and again, WALA has found this information critical in our legislative and PR efforts so PLEASE PARTICIPATE in this important survey. Questionnaires can be downloaded from the HCS website. For
further info, please call 201/405-0075, or visit the HCS website at www.hhcsinc.com.
