WALA and ALFA Respond to Katrina
WALA supports ALFA's efforts to help assisted living residents impacted by Hurricane Katrina. Please encourage your management and residents to help those in need-we have sent a $500 donation to start the ball rolling. ALFA has guaranteed that 100% of the funds they collect will help displaced assisted living residents.
WALA has been in contact with ALFA about other ways to help. The WALA Board of Directors is meeting Friday to discuss our response to the disaster. We are also part of a group meeting with BQA next Tuesday to discuss other initiatives. WALA will have more for you next week as plans are finalized to help those in need. -Jim Murphy
ALFA Members and State Affiliate organizations continue relief efforts for assisted living residents and providers displaced as a result of Hurricane Katrina. At the same time, ALFA has set up a Relief Fund to aid displaced residents.
ALFA is now compiling a master list of all assisted living communities who are offering to care for displaced assisted living residents in their communities. This list will be sent to our State Affiliate organizations later today to complement their efforts. ALFA will continuously update this list. To be included in the listing, visit and complete the form. Please use one form per community.
ALFA and State Affiliate leaders have not received a definite indication at this time of what relief, if any, will be provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for care reimbursement for displaced assisted living residents. ALFA will provide this information as soon as it is available.
The ALFA Hurricane Katrina Assisted Living Relief Fund has been established to fund relief efforts for displaced assisted living residents. 100% of the contributions collected for this fund will provide food, clothing, shelter, supplies, medical care, transportation, and other critical products and services.
