1. Resident-Focused Dining Coming Up Fast

Don't miss your chance to learn from the experts about bringing something new to your dining services! WALA's 2006 Lifestyle Regional Workshop, "Resident-Focused Dining: A Roundtable Discussion" is coming to you over the next two weeks at locations around the state. This half-day roundtable will help you bring the Resident Focused Care movement into your residents' dining room. All sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to noon and breakfast is included. Dates and locations are:

It's not too late to register! Do it online or call 608/288-0246. Registration is $79 for WALA members and $129 for non-members.

2. Survey Guides Now On Internet

The BQA has begun making survey guides available on the Internet and will no longer be providing a paper copy at the start of a survey, unless a provider does not have Internet access and requests a copy. However, surveyors will continue to distribute a contact page listing the website address, surveyor's name, surveyor's supervisor and contact information for both. [Survey guides.]

3. Last Chance to Have Your Say on Managed Care Seminar

In October, WALA will be presenting a special seminar on managed care and the expansion of Family Care. We are in the final stages of planning this session, and your input is needed in helping us finalize the content of this presentation. What do you need to know about the future of managed care in Wisconsin? Please e-mail Jim Murphy at jmurphy@ewala.org with your thoughts and questions-and watch your mailbox for information on our Managed Care Seminar!

4. OSHA Safe Resident Handling Program in Wausau Aug. 2

Workers' compensation and resident safety are important issues for every provider. Along with a broad array of providers, advocates, insurance carriers and others, the local office of OSHA has worked to develop a program on enhancing the safety of your caregivers in working with residents. "Creating a Safer Environment: A Value Added Program for Resident Care" is being presented on August 2 at the Stoney Creek Inn in Mosinee, near Wausau. This full-day program will feature a number of presenters on safe resident handling, as well as vendors and other resources.

Registration is $60 and includes breakfast and lunch. The program runs from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Call 888/682-7144 ext. 4940 with questions or to register. If you would need to travel the night before, a block of rooms has been available at the Stoney Creek Inn for $62; call 800/659-2220 for details.

5. Join WALA at The Bog Sept. 18

Our 10th annual WALA Autumn Classic is heading to a new course! Join your fellow providers and business associates for a day of golf and networking at The Bog, an Arnold Palmer-designed course north of Milwaukee. The event is on Monday, September 18 at 11 a.m., and both lunch and dinner are included. With a new course comes new prices, 33% lower than last year!

Registration is open and many sponsorship opportunities are still available. Contact Erin Suchomel at esuchomel@ewala.org or 608/288-0246 for details, including our 10% discount for sponsors by July 31.

6. 2007 WALA Spring Conference: Dates and RFP8

Mark your calendar-our Spring Conference is returning to Madison on March 27-29, 2007. With new sessions, a new setup for exhibitors and more, it promises to be next year's can't-miss event for Wisconsin assisted living.

Do you know someone who could present at the WALA Spring Conference? How about yourself? We have issued a Request for Proposals for presenters, and are looking for providers, partners and experts to share their knowledge with the industry. Contact Erin Suchomel at esuchomel@ewala.org or 608/288-0246 for details or to get an RFP packet. The deadline is August 14.

7. Have Breakfast with BQA

In conjunction with the Bureau of Quality Assurance, WALA is pleased to present Breakfast with BQA, a FREE program bringing providers and regulators together in an informal setting. For the second year, WALA is assisting the Bureau in its provider outreach efforts, sponsoring this opportunity for all providers to meet with their local regulators in an informal give-and-take session. Breakfast with BQA will be held in all 5 BQA regions in October:

Did we mention that it's free? To register, simply call us at 608/288-0246 or e-mail us with your name, the names of those attending, your facility name and address, and a phone number.

8. Residents Wanted!

Every resident has a story-help us share it with your colleagues! WALA is looking for residents to feature in the "Resident Spotlight" feature in our WALA Watch newsletter. It's a great way to help us keep connected to those we serve. Send your stories or ideas to Daniel Bush at dbush@ewala.org or call him at 608/442-0375.
